#735 Try a Lash Lift

I’ve always loved trying out new beauty trends. Most of them seem to be offering a simple answer to a longtime beauty concern, but very few are actually worth the hype. In the past, I’ve tried out eyelash extension (individual lashes semi-permanently glued to the eyelid), but didn’t enjoy the upkeep or the look when a patch starts to fall out. I thought I found my solution when I heard of an eyelash lift (semi-permanent perming of the lashes to give the look of fuller and longer lashes)

Lash lifts can be kind of pricey so I waited until a sale rolled around at my local spa in Halifax (Gentle Touch Spa). It usually costs $75 CAD, but I snagged a deal for around $50 CAD. There are some at-home kits, but I’d be hesitant to try them. There are some serious chemicals being placed around the eye, so I’d rather leave it to the professionals.

The process started by the technician sticking a piece of plastic to my eyelids and carefully glueing my lashes down. After that, she placed the perming solution on my lashes and left it sit for a few minutes. After that was removed, she placed the setting solution on my lashes and let it sit for a little while longer. The treatments was actually very relaxing and the technician gave me a shoulder massage while the solutions were working their magic. The entire process was totally painless and the technician made sure I opened my eyes slowly to ensure there was no stinging. My salon also includes a lash tint as part of the package. This tints your lashes a black, and makes your lashes pop even more.

Step one in a lash lift – glueing your lashes down

The technician did her best to get all the glue off my eyelashes, but it can be quite difficult because no water can touch the lashes for 24 hours after the perm. I was left with a few glue fragments stuck to my eye that I could only get off if I washed my face. Tip: Don’t make big plans after your lash lift.

Unlike a lash extension, you can wear mascara if you have a lash lift. Just make sure to avoid any oil based products on your lashes because they will cause the lift to fall. The lift lasted about a month and gradually faded over time. Because of the price, I don’t know if this will be a regular part of my beauty routine. It would be a nice luxury if I was going on vacation and didn’t want to be bothered wearing much makeup.
